Today I would like to describe to all of you about a very significant activity that was carried out and delivered successfully by UK Sircle this year. The name of the activity is: “Migration from AWX to Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)”. It was carried out for a Digital Transformation Services customer in USA who approached us through our partner Red Hat to migrate their entire AWX estate to AAP.
The activity shows an excellent example of collaboration between “across the border” of different teams in SORINT, that of US and UK. Red Hat USA approached SORINT.lab in US asking for an AAP resource. Tech screening was arranged by USA’s Sircle Leader, Mark Wencek, and our team member in UK, Pankaj Chandna, successfully passed the Tech Screening to land us with the migration project. Once the Tech Screening was done, access to the customer Dev/QA environments was arranged. SORINT.uk started with studying the existing AWX environment of the customer and designed a strategy to adapt the existing Ansible playbooks that were running via AWX by tweaking them to run on the latest version of Red Hat’s Ansible Automation Platform.
This involved a lot of hands-on testing of the playbooks and also installing the Ansible Automation Controller, Private Automation Hub and Execution nodes. All this was not easy because SORINT.uk had to test these implementations on a local environment first before recommending it to the customer. For the UK team to test this locally, the team decided to created a VMware based environment where we could test all his AAP stuff and then recommend the course of action to the customer. That’s how the first phase of the activity was delivered. The project is still ongoing. It is in its second phase now, whereby the team is implementing Automation mesh for the customer.

Oggi vorrei descrivere a tutti voi un'attività molto significativa che è stata svolta e consegnata con successo dal Sircle UK quest'anno. Il nome dell'attività è: "Migrazione da AWX ad Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)". È stata realizzata per un cliente di Digital Transformation Services negli Stati Uniti, che si è rivolto a noi tramite il nostro partner Red Hat per migrare l'intera proprietà AWX ad AAP.
L'attività mostra un eccellente esempio di collaborazione tra i diversi team SORINT "oltre confine": quello statunitense e quello britannico. Red Hat USA ha contattato SORINT.lab negli Stati Uniti chiedendo una risorsa AAP. Lo screening tecnico è stato organizzato dal Sircle Leader statunitense, Mark Wencek, e il membro del nostro team nel Regno Unito, Pankaj Chandna, ha superato con successo lo screening tecnico per approdare al progetto di migrazione. Una volta terminato il Tech Screening, è stato organizzato l'accesso agli ambienti Dev/QA del cliente. SORINT.uk ha iniziato a studiare l'ambiente AWX esistente del cliente e ha progettato una strategia per adattare i playbook Ansible esistenti, che venivano eseguiti tramite AWX, modificandoli per essere eseguiti sull'ultima versione di Ansible Automation Platform di Red Hat.
Ciò ha comportato una serie di test pratici dei playbook e l'installazione di Ansible Automation Controller, Private Automation Hub e nodi di esecuzione. Tutto questo non è stato facile perché SORINT.uk ha dovuto testare queste implementazioni su un ambiente locale prima di raccomandarle ai clienti. Per testare tutto questo a livello locale, il team britannico ha deciso di creare un ambiente basato su VMware in cui testare tutto il materiale AAP e poi consigliare la linea d'azione al cliente. È così che è stata realizzata la prima fase dell'attività. Il progetto è ancora in corso e al momento si trova nella seconda fase, durante la quale il team sta implementando Automation mesh per il cliente.
